Relaxing in front of a woodburning stoveFeeling cosy, safe and secure, happy and contented to be with family and friends – surely there is no better place to do this than sitting in front of a beautiful and warming stove. A wonderful haven to spend romantic moments together, peacefully enjoy a good read, relax or catch up with the latest gossip with loved ones.

Hanley Glass & Windows brings over 50 years of experience to source the very best quality discount stove glass replacement; wood burning stoves fitted with SCHOTT ROBAX® glass-ceramic panels allow for the heat generated within the stove to gradually pass through the glass and constantly fill the entire room with warmth.

Indeed the greatest benefit a stove can add to your home is when it heats up an entire room evenly and combustion can be regulated. With superior strength, and visibility, your view and feel of the fire is never interrupted.

Each panel is manufactured to the highest standards with:

  • High heat permeability of each panel
  • Superior transparency, temperature stability, heat transmission and a long lifespan
  • Sizes up to 195 x 110 cm
  • 4mm thickness as standard

Energy Efficient Stove Glass EnvironmentSCHOTT ROBAX® supports sustainable management of wood through the energy efficiency of its product; the use of glass-ceramic windows doubles the efficiency of a glazed heating device when burning wood compared to open stoves. This means SCHOTT ROBAX® products can help reduce the amount of wood needed for heating.

Even the burning itself is CO2 neutral, because the process only releases as much carbon dioxide into the environment as the wood absorbed from the atmosphere before being felled.  A further ecological benefit provided by SCHOTT ROBAX® is that conditions in the combustion space are optimised to significantly reduce the amount of particulate matter produced during burning.

How to measure

Step 1: Remove the door

This can be done by lifting it off the hinges or pushing the hinge pins upwards. Occasionally they have bolts that need to be removed.

Step 2: Removing the old glass

Place the door flat being careful how to handle the glass with gloves. Remove all screws to remove the glass carefully using gloves.

Step 3: Measuring the glass

Measure the existing glass in millimetres. If your glass has a shape, place it on paper to draw around it for a template then send it to us.

Technical Specification

Appearance

ROBAX® glass ceramic is transparent and has very little natural coloring with respect to the material itself or as a result of the manufacturing process. The surface is smooth on both sides, but has a slight texture.

Quality

The externally certified management system introduced in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 (for quality management) and DIN EN ISO 14001 (for environmental management) represents a high standard for quality.

It also ensures compliance with customer demands, as well as official regulations and guidelines.

Panel thicknesses

ROBAX® is available in the following standard thickness with corresponding admissible tolerances:

Thickness: 4 mm

Tolerance: ± 0.2 mm

Mechanical properties

Density ρ approx. 2.6 g/cm3 (at 25 °C / 77 °F)

Bending strength approx. 35MPa*

* The test is carried out in accordance with DIN EN 1288 T5, with the surface in its normal condition of use as encouraged in practice.

Thermal properties

Coefficient of mean linear thermal expansion α (20 –700 °C) (0 ± 0.5) x 10-6/K

Resistance to thermal gradients (RTG)

The RTG value measures how well a material can resist temperature differences within a defined area, e.g. the temperature difference between the hot area in the center of a panel and the cold edge area (room temperature). No breakage caused by thermal stress occurs at a maximum temperature of Tmax ≤ 700 °C (1292 °F).

Resistance to thermal shock (RTS)

The RTS value measures the panel’s ability to withstand a sudden thermal shock. No breakage caused by thermal stress occurs at a maximum temperature of Tmax ≤ 700 °C (1292 °F).

Temperature/time loading

The temperature/time loading limits determine the permissible temperature for set usage times at which no breakage caused by thermal stress occurs. The pairs of values shown in the following table are relevant for the practical usage of glass-ceramic as a viewing panel for stoves and fireplaces.

The temperature values refer to the hottest points on the outside of the panel. One must make sure that these temperature/time loading limits are not exceeded. Taking resistance to thermal gradients and thermal shock into account, the following applies:

Temperature/time load capacity:
600 °C/ 1,112 °F 1,000 hours
650 °C/1,202 °F 100 hours

Cleaning

Slight soiling of SCHOTT ROBAX® panels can removed using a conventional glass cleaning product. Note: On no account should scouring pads, abrasive cleansers or scouring agents be used, as they may cause damage to the glass surface.

General information

  • Even under thermal load, ROBAX® glass ceramic panels show near-zero thermal expansion. For this reason the different thermal expansion of the various framing materials in proportion to the ROBAX® panel must be taken into account in the design of the entire heating device.
  • Additionally, the limitations of manufacturing tolerances of the frame and glass-ceramic panel should be considered.
  • Contact pressure that leads to bending stress on the panel must be eliminated. This can be achieved, for example, by limiting torque, or with an arrester which limits screw-in depth.
  • Since slight twisting of the frame construction cannot be controlled, a thermally stable, permanently elastic seal (e.g. fiberglass reinforced or mineral-fiber reinforced) should be used to prevent the frame coming in contact with the ROBAX® panel.
  • If the frame is required to touch the glass-ceramic panel due to design reasons, then the contact pressure must be evenly distributed (never at single points) over the circumference of the panel.
  • The panel must not come into direct contact with metal frame parts. It is recommended to use a thermally stable, permanently elastic seal.
  • Seal manufacturer instructions must also be followed, in particular with regard to contact pressure of materials.
  • During installation, it is essential to protect the glass ceramic panel, specifically the edges from potential damage (blows, bumps and scratches).
  • If a high-temperature-resistant silicone is applied to the circumference of the panel, the elastic limit of the silicone must be considered. Due to the excellent bonding properties of glass-silicone, exceeding the limit can lead to cracked or broken windows.
